We managed…

To get a whole lottta nothing done. Dinner plans throughout the weekend didn’t seem to materialize (was I supposed to call? ) so we spent a lot of time on the couch. On Saturday we intended on riding, but we didn’t because my hip was hurting. But we DID manage to get: pedals and shoes, bright bike clothes, dog food, through the light @ Amelia and Bumby without getting hit, groceries, a new toy for me that I will drool over when it finally gets here, stuff for care packages for the girls up North, and a comic for D. D tried to put the new pedals on, but the pedal wrench started to deform from his super-human efforts. It seems who ever put the pedals on initially thought it best to tighten them so much that D smooshed his finger trying to get the damn thing off. So, I didn’t get to ride because we got one pedal off, and the other was still on. D and I are going to take the bikes down to Orange Cycle to see if they can get the damn thing off for us. But I do have a nifty orange shirt to wear now…yeah, I’m all spiffy.
We did manage to ride on Friday – the first exercise I’ve had since the accident (and boy did it show by my mood swings last week!). The ride on the trail left me kind of pissed because I just never mustered the kind of speed I know I’m capable of. Still, I got out into the sunshine and moved my ass. I felt a lot better for it as well. Oh – and I also got a bug in my eye! I learned I always need to ride with some kind of eye protection, because it hurt like hell!
D and I saw Nick riding the Cady Way trail. I don’t know why, but I was quite amused. I know he still lives here, but I just assumed I would never see him again. It’s strange where you run into people. I thought about saying hi, but I decided against insincerity. D said he nodded a hello at him, but he always was more forgiving than I am. Still, I wish him well in that arms-length kind of way.. but I digress.
As I wrote on Saturday, I finished my story for class Friday night. I admit to being quite pleased with it. It’s a quiet work, but I think it has the cinematic quality I love in certain writing. I get too close to stories and think that the reader automatically sees what I see in the text. The difference between fiction and non-fiction for me is that in fiction I tend to tread in the obtuse, where in non, I want to make the reader feel so I am heavy-handed with the emotive detail. “Changing Memory” bridges both worlds, I think. After reading it again, I found typos and a few sophomoric paragraphs that I would have reworked if I had read it out loud (they were later additions that I didn’t have time to hone) but I really had to turn it in. Also, there is a man in class that has an Apple and Appleworks that didn’t understand how to export a .doc. I tried to help him out, and I think it worked, but I wasted time doing that as well. I let D and my mother read it and they both liked it but thought that the ending left the reader wanting for more of the story. I think I should re-examine the characters and see if they have any other stories to tell…… I may post the work here, but not until I fix a few things.
So, it’s Monday. Woo hoo (please note the deflated nature of that enthusiasm). D’s at home. He has the day off (the wanker!) so I am at work. Still no word on the car.
We also watched Mr and Mrs Smith and Sahara – both were entertaining and cute, but not deep cinema at all. Sometimes the mind needs a little fluff!
I think I should get some work done now. I guess. Hmmm..

Well the body shop just called me…$6200 and about 12 days from when they get the parts, which she said they should have by the end of the week. She also said that was an initial estimate and things could change if they find more damage once they start working on it.

Fantastico!! (note sarcasm) Is it even worth repairing?? Jesus!!
Well…it looks like we will have to muddle through with the car-sharing thing for another three weeks. Fuck. That’s a LOT of money.

WOAH, wouldn’t that cost as much as the car is worth? If the damage is more than the car is worth, can you just have the other people pay you that money, you sell the car for parts and use the total of that $$ for a new car?
Car accidents suck.
E – I have something for you. Can I meet you at the CSS cafe tomorrow before class?

Absolutly!! I should be up there early. Just call me because I plan on heading to campus right after I get out of work..
The car is worth more than that, unfortunatly. And we had the insurance “take care” of everything. They arranged for the car to be moved, got us a reputable repair shop and are dealing with the other guy’s insurance crapola. The sticking point right now is being without a car for a month for D. It’s just a pain in the tushy. We’ll get over it.

If I remember correctly if the damage is more then a certain percentage of the cars value (I think its like 80%) then the car insurance company has the option to call it “Totaled” and pay out that value. The thing is you always get screwed in that situation being that they never pay you as much as its really worth on the open market. So Hope that it isn’t totaled and that it can be repaired then you can choose to sell the car once you get it back. Much more money in that solution and a bit more control on your part of the financial’s. I also watched me some movies this weekend. Free Stars & Encore on Direct TV so I took advantage. I watched Six Degrees of seperation, but the TiVo screwed me out of the meat of the movie so I will have to rent it and watch it again. I really enjoyed what I watched so I’m looking forward to seeing the rest.

Chances are if they find more damage with your car… it will be with the frame… which is something that you dont want. You dont want them fixing a f-up frame. so hope that the frame is okay…
so funny… Didnt snoop or coolio have a song about “Ridin” ? I like the Dynamite Hack version of that one song “ride punk ass ride”?
I wish that you would post your work… I would like to read it sometime. I am a reader and I need more stuff to inhale.. I have completely read everything that I own that is enjoyable. I have seen all our movies. Bed rest sucks…so does the swelling… my ankles are the size of small trees.
A- I wish there was a way that we could actually “hear” you sing that!
Anyhow… B and I are lookin to get new bikes for ourselves after Nicholas’ birthday in May… Cause we are dropping a small load on a new bike for him. I personally would like something that we can trail ride and attach a car on the back for Chloe and Riley… any suggestions E?
