Where does the fault lie when a whole class bombs a test?
I am thinking it’s with the professor. I read the works. I studied. No one in the class got above an 83, so she put a curve on the test to bring us all up to a decent grade, and then told us to “chill out” because we still had the opportunity to raise the grade.
This professor is inept, carries around a chip on her shoulder, and is a fucking high school teacher. I am paying to be taught, not to be told that I should have “read the text” deelply, and if I paid attention to what ever else there was around me that I could have been able to make a better grade. As it was, with the curve, I got a C. I am livid.
This is not a problem with my slacking. It’s an inept professor. That’s the end of the story.
I also got up at 4:30 this morning so I could get the doggy to their appointment. I would like to shut my eyes and go back to sleep now, but my desk will never be as comfy as my bed.
Happy Tuesday.

While I understand your outrage at such lazy teaching, the truth is there will always be instructors like this. There shouldn’t be, even in highschool, but definitely not in college. I guess you just have to make the best of it. Oh and take naps.

I realize a nap would have done a lot to combat this crap, but this professor makes me want to stay home. If her attitude is “read the book” then I don’t know why I am paying out the ass to take her class….except that it’s required. They need to find a new humanities professor.

You know…..in Chicago……we gots ways to……talk to deese professors and such. Make them….see da light. You know what I mean? You let me know. I’m a good communicator.
*slowly swings baseball bat*
Did I mention Chicago love sports as well? Maybes I should teach dis teacher some “pinch hitting.”

Maybe it’s the room, that we share on Mondays, that fosters the inept teachers.
The end of my class consisted on scolding and telling us how we didn’t do the assignment the way we should have. That we didn’t follow the directions and that we should utilize the writing center and that every single one of us will “get a chance” to re-write the paper.
Half the class stormed out crying and I had to stay to verify what grade I got on my paper (since they forgot to put it on there). They said, “oh - you got a C-.” Never in my life have I made such a grade. They said, “you wrote very well, you just didn’t answer the question.”
So this weekend will consist of wasting more of my time writing a paper the way THEY want. More hours invested to please them instead of thinking out of the box and actually learning something.
Needless to say, I am over this semester. YAY!

Anne - but you looked fabulous!
I really do think that there’s something with that room - like the variant temperature makes it impossible for professors to teach clearly. When I got home I wanted to cry… So I feel your pain. In order to help my grade she wants me to do these retarded response papers - which is basically busywork. I think a temper tantrum is in order.

YAY for temper tantrums!
Well, I had those shoes on - who wouldn’t look fabulous with those shoes??? *wink*

Seems since the time you started there Goob, the quality of teachers has declined in the Holt school. Could just be my perception, though.

I think I just stopped looking at the academic world of Rollins through rose colored glasses. There are still some outstanding professors: Laws, Levis, Boles…but they are rarer these days.

hey - doggy update…
daisy turned out okay… a small fortune later
her eye was not punctured just bruised and the tissue around the eye had small lacerations, but all in all she is doing very well… my friend at the vets office took awesome care of her. She didnt even have to stay in a kennel. They let her walk around as if she owned the place.
thanks for the good vibes E…

what would her name have been….
it would have to be an oriental pirate pug name!
Ping the Pugtastic Pirate or something goofy like that.

I think the quality has declined as well. They had to cross list a class (day and holt) in order to offer it.
I wish there was someone we could go to. There has to be something we can say or do.

I find it perplexing that the quality is going down…yet the cost and qualifications (AKA hoops) to get in are going up. I hope it improves for you guys…only a little bit to go! : )
