Rethinking

Posted on | May 2, 2006 | 7 Comments

I am looking around a more grad schools and have settled into the thought of on in Virginia. It feels like Rollins in terms of size and campus, and it’s in Roanoke, a great place to bike. The more I think about things, the less settled I am to one idea or another. When people ask me what I’m going to do after graduaiton “Moving to Chicago” has given way to “finding a masters program.” I won’t settle this time. I will get into a school that inspires me, and the weight of this boredom and frustration from this semester really solidified it for me.

I have my art final today. I think I will do fine, athough my studying has been put to the wayside by the short story I am writing.

And I would like to give props to all those that marched yesterday. I thought it wasn’t an issue that touched me, and then I remembered that my father’s family were all immigrants who had to go through what these people are speaking of. My mother’s family came over a long time ago, but there is immigrant in me. I should have marched. I may not know much about my hispanic culture, but it’s in my blood and their suffering impacts us all

Don’t struggle too hard with the school decisions. You have time to figure things out, though I agree, you shouldn’t settle. As far as the immigration thing, I find a group of people who wouldn’t be here if not for immigration debating immigration somewhat funny. I think its about time the Americas got all EU and shit, allowing for more open borders.

I’m trying not to struggle, but it happens I guess. There are a lot of options and I want to make the right one for us.

The EU want to tighten their borders too. Imagine all the tax revenue they would get if they were able to tax the immigrant workers! I don’t do economics, but I think it would balance itself out.

I second Anne’s comment on Virginia…it is very pretty. In addition a good school, you’ll also get the best of both world’s in terms of weather. A little snow, but not as much as here…and lots of green!

Hollins is just one of the schools I’m considering. I’ve got till January to apply for most of them, including Hollins. They are on the top of a list. :) There are other places I love as well, like Oregon. But we shall see what happens.
