I got my grades for Northern Renaissance Art and my Fiction Workshop classes – A’s in both of them. I kind of knew I would gett an A in the N. Ren class. Now (I’ve taken her classes an obscene number of times) I just get silly on the essay portions of the finals. One of her infamous questions is “If you were to showcase an exhibit of this art period, name 10 works and why they are significant to you.” One of the works I loved the most is Van der Weyden’s Portrait of a Lady. There’s something secretive about her face. Well, I included that as one of my 10 works and the only reason I gave was “because I liked it.” I felt much more comfortable about her final that time than I have any other time.

When I turned in my final story for my Fiction class I wasn’t sure what was going to come of it. Unlike my previous short stories, the main character wasn’t eccentric or bold. I found my inspiration from a moment D and I witnessed at Octopus. An older woman who worked there had to deal with a belligerent customer. I will post the story (I don’t have it with me). I tried to get out of my own way and allow Mildred (not her real name, but I liked it for her) to develop without fearing that it would reflect on who I am as a person. First and foremost I am an author and I could write a story with the most heinous characters who are cruel and mean. I may be able to imbue them with true filth of the soul, but that doesn’t mean that I possess those characteristics. So Mildred’s little story was a start for me. The next one will really challenge how I feel in my skin.

As for the Humanities class that I hated so much. I took an incomplete in that class so I could get an extension on senior thesis. I’ve not done a damn thing on it….I will start again on it this weekend. But I don’t know how I did on the final, which I still think was a bullshit final. Beyond that…well… I look forward to that whole process being over. Then I can get to the fluffy stuff this summer. Yay for fluffy.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Thursday.

D – I want Margarita’s Grill! MOLE AND MARGARITAS! SALSA!!! CRACK!!! GIMME CRACK!

Anne – I would have loved to have opted out of a grade for that class, but it was a core and I didn’t think I would be able to get away with it because it’s my last core humanities class. That room REALLY was cursed!
They are still screwing around with my tuition stuff…dumbasses. I hate the money aspect of school. Alas…it’s what we pay to be all edumacated and stuff.
