Senate set to reject same-sex marriage ban

Do you know why this an issue?

Because we are failing in our “war” in Iraq. Remember, we never offically went to war, we are just in a conflict according to the government. The images of dead soliders, bloodied children and the scandals that followed are sitting at the foot of the president. Our government can’t seem to get body armor to the kids fighting this conflict, but they can get the money and the votes (not really) to debate this issue.

Do you know what’s bad for families? Not having a mother or a father. Have a parent that is mentally damaged from the things they witnessed in the war. That vacancy left when the person you knew and loved comes back different, foreign. If they want to support families they should bring the parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons and daughters back home so they can rebuild their fractured families.

Bush has done this to families. The inaction in the senate and the house have done this to the family unit. Although it’s in vogue to be against the war, don’t let them distract you with our “immigration” issues (Mexican terrorists???) and the saving of the “family”. Remember, that we have not caught Bin Laden - have you heard about him on the news recently?
I understand that I don’t have an immediate loved one overseas. That I don’t have kids that could be damaged by the conflicts overseas. That I am very left-wing, a pacifist, and all for gay rights. But to cheapen the idea of family all in the name of political pandering pisses me off to no end. Why isn’t all the money they are raising, on an issue that isn’t going to pass to begin with, going to the South that was blasted by the hurricanes last year? Or how about music and art programs for kids? How about helping out failing schools or making urban park?. How about research into alternative energy source?. Instead of cheapening the idea of family…do something good. Don’t let them blindside you….

Politicians have become increasingly efficient at stroking volatile issues to distract the public from the real issues. I wish people could step away from their hot issues and look at the real problems.
