Games industry is ‘failing women’

Well no shit!

I read this yesterday, but thought it warranted posting. I think everyone knows by now that I love video games. But, I don’t play the sports games, nor most of the first person shooters (they give me a damn headache). I am an RPG or platform kind of girl. Yeah, racing games are fun, but only if I can blow shit up. I wish someone would pay attention to this, to really listen. There are scores of women like me, and others who just need a little coaxing to get into the gaming world. The industry seems to forget that the gaming population goes far beyond the pimpley adolescent male. I’m thirty. I’m a woman, and frankly, I’m bored. D bought the 360 for me, but the only game I’m jazzed about is Morrowind. There are scored of games on the PS2 that I loved. Where are the good games for women and why can’t we have them now?

“Just boys saw Star Wars multiple times.”

What? I didn’t want to finish reading the article just because of that. Honestly, if they made more puzzle games, maybe more girls would play. In general girls are better at puzzle games. Regardless, I think it just takes a boy being open minded to let a girl play to get girls playing. It’s not that we don’t like to play, it’s that we’re told we can’t. I mean, in general of course. I play RPGs and RTSs all the time.

I need another Diablo. NEED IT! But Blizzard lost the poeple that made it. One can only dream….

Yeah, the Star Wars comment was a bit much. It’s hard to change the perceptions. I make the mistake of assuming that other women have seen Star Wars multiple times in the theatre and that they care about Battlestar Galactica. I guess they make the same mistake. And you are right…I love puzzle games. But there either needs to be smarter marketing , not look how hyper-realistic those soliders are - because I couldn’t give a good-god-damn what they look like if the story sucks. I think that is what the game makers are missing. PLOT! ……that is why Final Fantasy did so well….

You know, you’re right. And guys want that too. I know a lot of guys who are into the games with good stories, not JUST shooters. Besides, those games don’t even have to look that sick. I played Counter Strike until I puked a lot. A LOT.

Try Dirge of cernurus for the ps2 if you have one. Its a fun shoot-em-up based on ff7 and the latest ff film. Great fun.

Its oblivion not morrowind on the 360. Its great though. I love that game. Beyond that their isnt anything much I like on that consule either. I love rpgs.
