Got Power?

I don’t.
I offically don’t like roughing it. I know it could be worse. We could be without water, but I am so tired of sweating and if David wasn’t home (his office has no re-opened) then I would seriously consider sticking around work a lot longer. My house feels icky. Nothing is dry. We had to completly empty the fridge and freezer because everything spoiled. Do you know how disheartening it is to trash all your food? 5 garbage bags. 5. Hundreds of dollars. Damnit I fucking hate this hurricane shit.
They cleared Nebraska (sort of), cuttting the felled oak on Sunday but there is still a vast ammount of debris and none of the power on my side of Virginia has been restored. I can see the tantalizing glimmering lights just down Ferncreek, where a super huge tree died, but the light has not reached our house and I spent another night fitfully sleeping, breathing in moist, hot, air. I hate Florida.
While I am grumpy as hell about not having power I would never dream of taking it out on the people working on restoring power. The guys have gone through some insane shit. Being screamed at. Being called out just to get screamed at. Insults thrown. Curses tossed. And the guys are just trying to restore everything as soon as possible. Many of them don’t have full utilities, so working their asses off all day and then going home to the 5th level of hell is not making for a friendly enviornment here. One of the electric guys told me that someone was hurling stones at OUC crews last night. Why? Because they wanted their power. Well that is just a brilliant way to get it, you fucking morons. One of the major hinderances, beyond the extensive damage itself, is the storms. No one is allowed to work when lightening is present. We have gotten afternoon storms a lot, so it slows shit down. So, while I am so tired of this sweating shit, I realize that it could be worse. Of course, I am writing this at work where the AC is arctic. Ask me if I am seeing the brighter side of things when I get home to a heated house.
Doug has been our dinner guest much of late. I am getting skilled on the grill (which was the last small one at Target when we bought it – SCORE!) and find that I love the flavor of the food from the grill. The baked/grilled potatoes were divine, but I miss ice cream. So, we will probably have dinner with him again seeing that we have a grill and he doesn’t. The company is always welcome.
David is wandering around Orlando with my Mac. The machine is easy to use, and perfect for me. I am slightly irritated that I can’t load Diablo, but there are better things to worry about. So, since he can’t work I am going to assume he has taken up residence somewhere cool with my computer.
The beagles are still hyper in this heat. I swear – they are aliens!

E, you mentioned praying about power in one of your other posts… i will say a prayer for you tonight… I really hope that you get it back on soon…
yes it could have been much worse… God forbid that the tree in your front yard came thru the house… thats what i was worried about, im sure once you get power and cable back you will hear a frantic message from me… calling asking you to contact me…. i will say that at the time i wasnt thinking about the fact that your phone is over IP…
its cool about the grill tho… grilled food everynight that must be fun! and you have water to wash the dishes and your bodies…
a small note… get a cell phone… lol
one more thing… IF you want you can come crash at my house so you can get some real sleep in comfort… there is a futon and ac and you are welcome to it….

On the utilities: sucky they’re not back on. Things ‘could’ be worse, but that’s still shitty. Hope you get it back soon. Humans aren’t meant to live in Fl.
On the grill: I used to cook most of my food on our grill for a long time, till it ran out of fuel, heh. Still hasn’t been refilled…
On Diablo: is your version for OSX, etc? I ‘acquired’ Halo for Mac, if you’re interested. Havne’t messed with it yet. Also have Alien vs. Predator 1, Quake (can’t remember if it’s OS9/OSX) and Unreal Tournament (OS9/OSX?). Oh yeah, and Neverwinter Nights.
