It has a (criss-cross metal material) cover that appears to be fire resistant but we tried to burn with it on and it started to melt! That was when we (my husband started it I think) set fire to a pumpkin. I was very sad when the fruit flies attacked my punkins and made them mushy. I had to throw them out before Halloween.
