What is your dog eating?

Brains and beaks in dog food.
It seems that there are those out there who have a problem with this, just as I do. We’ve made sure that we buy foods that are not tested on animals (as in — no beagles in cages suffed with food until they puke) and have a high healthy meat content. We tried vegetarian food for the dogs, but they didn’t eat it. Yes, our dogs actually turned their nose up to food. Shocking, eh? It’s hard to get away from animal “meal.”

One of my dogs is on a special veinson and potato only food. The other two eat Purina ONE and I want to believe that’s a safe one.

Purina tests on beagles.
What brand is the potatoe and vennison?

They test?!? Really? The one I use is a brand called Royal Canin but it’s called like IVD or something. I buy it at the vet but you can also get it at Petsmart in their RX section. I’m sorry I use food that tests on beagles

We get this food for our beagles http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/home/aboutus.html
Royal Canin does test, but it seems to be a more humane – http://www.royalcanin.us/campus.html
It’s a hard choice and you have to pick your fights. I just think the recycling of nasty animal bits into anything – fodder for cattle or “protien” for companion animal food- is mad nasty.

It’s just so hard to avoid a lot of that stuff, especially if you don’t have a lot of money to spend. Zoey’s one-starch-one-meat food is very expensive but she needs it for her skin condition. I try to be the best pet mommy I can be…

Oh Claire, I am not being accusatory by any means. I understand the limits and the choices that have to be made. We stumbled upon all of this info when we traversed deeper into the vegetarianism and animal rights end of our ethics, but that is what we do. It’s criminal that the good food (both for people and their dogs) is always the more expensive choice. Pip has allergies so we had to get the better food. He chews his bum off if we get the cheaper stuff. But we can afford that right now. I am absolutly sure that you are a fantastic doggy mommy

Thanks! (and I didn’t think you were accusing; I was lamenting that there’s only so much I (we) can do in terms of this subject.:()
