And this is how it will end
Rollins College November 8th, 2006
Anne, thankfully, posted her schedule for her last classes at Rollins. If she hadn’t posted, I think I would have spaced on registering. I’m not known for my memory. There is one class that I really wanted that I can’t get into without approval. Instead of swimming upstream, I am going to take the class that I need and the two that I mostly, kinda want. So, here it is — my schedule for my last semester at Rollins.
Field Botany with Lab — this is my last gen ed. And, of course, I wait till the end to take it.
Examines taxonomy, evolution, ecology, and the environmental significance of local flora through directed observation, identification, and experimental analysis. Students describe and identify plant specimens obtained in the field and interpret evolutionary and ecological relationships among plant groups. Mandatory field labs in Floridas natural environment and climate.
College Grammar — you are wondering if I’m nuts. Hell, I’m wondering the same thing. But I figure that too much grammar can’t hurt a person. Or can it? I shall find out.
Examines the rules and conventions of modern English, drawing on insights gained from traditional, structural, and transformational grammars. This theory-of-language course is NOT remedial. Students who feel that they need a review of basic English grammar are encouraged to take ENG 224 (Review of English Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation–CR/NC) before undertaking this course. Recommended for future teachers of English and for all writers who want to improve the mastery of their craft.
Composite Novel/Film — I am taking a class with this professor right now and she made it sound delightful. I’m a sucker for a good salesman.
The principle of composite structure focuses on how stories are told, how texts are put together. In this course, students explore composite structure in literary texts called “composite novels” (including such works as Winesburg, Ohio; A canticle for Leibowitz; The Woman Warrior; and Girl in Hyacinth Blue) and in visual texts called “composite films” (including such works as Short Cuts; Pulp Fiction; and The Red Violin).
I feel weird posting this. I think the reality is starting to hit. This is it kids. Registration. Moving. Crossing country and changing lives. I feel too icky right now to be scared, but there’s a little flame in my belly. I can’t figure out if it’s nausea, excitement or terror.
About

Oh the final three, it’s a little exciting, no? All that change to come won’t be so bad, you will still have your family, so you won’t have to face it alone.
I wish I could have taken Field Botany as an undergrad! How cool would that have been?
I am so excited for you!
