A Toast - To Frances
Did I forget to mention? September 7th, 2004
She stole my power, but left the house alone.
She was even kind enough to clean out the sycamore, pulling braches to the ground that suffered the ill effects of Charley. If she wasn’t so long winded, it would have been a pleasant event. The curfew kept us indoors, and bored. We tried to pass the time, playing cards and conversing, but the limiting nature of our confinement wore quickly on my nerves. I am sick of hurricanes.
But the power came back on last night and I slept with my duvet wrapped around me. It was a reason to celebrate.
We stopped by Bravissimo’s for a couple glasses of wine. Julie helped along the mild intoxication and phone calls were made. I had to figure how to FEMA worked. David’s Mom suffered irreprable damage, her apartment complex never fully recovered from Charley. So, the place is unlivable and I wanted to help. My mother had experience with helping my grandparents through Andrew. So I sought her advice and swore I would find them a nice place to live somewhere in Oviedo. I am still in the process of my search.
We head down south on Thursday, with Ivan looming. I refuse to believe that he will come to batter us here. I just don’t have time nor the patience to suffer another one of these damn things. We need the power so we can get our homework done, so sorry Ivan - fuck off.
I think I’m tired. Hmmm….
About

Glad to hear you guys made it through ok, and that power loss was brief.
Really sorry to hear about David’s mom :/ FEMA has been a bitch to get through to. I’ve called many times today, and they recommend ‘trying back when caller volume has decreased’.
We’re missing a good number of roof shingles, but have no leaks (yet). Our insurance deductible is $2418, so we may need a FEMA loan to handle that, and insurance will take care of the rest.
Looks like Ivan is headed south, and will stay south, so we can hopefully start to get back to normal. Although I enjoyed losing cable (losing internet sucked), but the family seemed to go through withdrawl.
So maybe next weekend or some time we can get together. There’s this wine A’s aunt gave us which I have been liking. If we can get more, that’d be fun. We can grill and relax.
