Paying Our Power Dues

It’s back on.
Damn, am I a happy girl. We decided to salvage the food, so we packed up all perishables and brought them to David’s brother’s house. His power would save our waffles and my milk. So, when we came home, we were greeted by the friendly flashing of yellow caution lights. OUC was working down the street. We let our hopes get up, almost bouncing at the possibility of power. But our hearts shattered like broken windows as they drove down the still-dark street, passing our house without incident. I almost cried. So, I started pouting and prepared to spend the night in the dark. As I pulled open the windows in the bedroom I heard the loving humming of the air conditioner. I thought it was my imagination. I turned to tell David and saw the blessed illumination from the living room lights. I don’t think I have been happier.
So, this time, it was less than 24 hours. For Hurricane Charley it was five days. Frances it was two. Jeanne just robbed us of only 24 hours, and frankly, I am willing to give that time up. Our roof shed many shingles, but it was relatively painless. Right now the AC is blasting, my mac is charging up (I ended up playing Diablo 2 for 2 hours to kill the boredom) and the beagles are sleeping next to me, finally still and resting.
Quite frankly I think we lucked out. No trees fell, everyone is fine. And I will sleep better tonight knowing that for a third time, we made it okay.
Hope you all fared well. I thnk it’s because I made cookies again. Really!!
