Interview with Company B

Slavin' August 27th, 2008

They are obviously a Portland company. For those of you who haven’t experienced Portland (or the west coast), it’s a laid back, we’ll get it done when we get it done kind of attitude. For someone like me, who prides themselves on getting shit done well and right, that can be a little frustrating, but I’m willing to learn. The interview ran just at an hour. The benefits aren’t all I wanted, 60% for health, and the pay is lower than I was looking for, but they are more than willing to “pay the right person.” Okay…. I don’t think they would short change a person, but Moody’s got bills to pay. The hours are uber flexible and the job pretty much entails being the office catch-all. I’m down with that. But one of the best things, besides the “bike to work” posters everywhere —- the office is less than 3 miles from my house. It’s not even a fucking bike ride….it’s a fart.

I have my 2nd interview with company A at 1:30 (it’s just after 11 now). I do have the feeling that they will offer me the job, but part of me wants to hold out and wait for Company B’s answer. Le sigh.

Regardless, I look fierce today. I’m taking my laptop out and going to sit at a cafe and get this deadline complete. And maybe I’ll take a few pictures too.

And that bottle of Merlot from David Hill is sitting on my counter, waiting for the good news.

    Woot for you!

Don’t forget you can thank Company A for their offer and ask if you can get back to them. If you feel like you’re comfortable, you can even tell them you’re waiting to hear back on another interview and would like to weigh your options. That might convince them to pony up some more bennies. (And don’t be shy about calling Company B, apologizing for potentially rushing them, and letting them know you have an offer from another company - you’d love to work for their company if they have a competitive offer. Blah blah.)
