Weekend Wrap Up

Ikea is my bitch.
No, really she is. See I can get in and out with an entire bedroom set, kitchen hardware, odds and ends for a house and a chaise in under three hours. Actually, I can do it in less than two, but I had Amanda with me. She wanted help purchasing some adult furniture for her new place. There were a few ground rules – it had to fit up her narrow, steep stairs, it had to be affordable, and it had to fit into the odd-shaped space she calls a bedroom. I knew Ikea was the way to go. We spent 3 hours (by my count it was longer but she’s insisting it was 3) and then drove back to her house in thick fog, with the flashy lights on so no speeder hit us in our chaise.
Assembly of the furniture was just as time consuming. We spent all of yesterday putting together the bed, side tables and hanging her pot racks. David scraped his head on her sloped ceiling. I was recognized at the speaker of Swedish hyroglyps, and by the end of the night, after 3 bottles of wine, cheesecake, a pizza and some serious belly laughs, her room was mostly completed.
Okay, that’s a total lie. She still needs to hang her curtains. But that shit is gonna wait.
So basically David and I spent the weekend with Amandapants. Not a bad way to burn time.
We did go to see Battlestar Galactica at the Bagdad Theatre on Friday night. They are showing the remaining episodes at the theatre, until the season finale. I heard about the event via Twitter (ahhhh how do I love thee?), and we made the decision to go. After all, the showing was free. One of the executive producers was on hand after the episode to answer quesitons and give us a little insight into the show. I’m amazed at how deeply people are effected by images on a moving screen. Some of the questions bordered on the bizarre, some attempted to argue for or against the logic in certain story lines, and others were very informative. Watching something like Battlestar with hundreds of other fans made the expereince visceral for me. We guffawed, cringed and laughed at the same points. And it is universally believed that Scifi has some of the worst shows known to modern TV…but they got it right with Battlestar.
This Friday we will brave the cold again for the show, and they are playing True Romance after the episode. It’s something to look foward to at the end of the week.
Meanwhile, my editing won’t get done unless I finish it….so off I go.
