Remember…this is war
Politics January 19th, 2005
I have not forgotten the rotten taste that flooded my mouth when I heard the television announce a “War.” The justifications still ring hollow. But death becomes repetative, almost routine. Occasionally they announce the updated casualty numbers….but only for our soldiers. No one cares about the civilians.
That is not the child’s blood. She rode in her car with her siblings when she was fired upon by the good guys. The driver didn’t stop. The driver died. And she stands screaming…can you hear it?
Look at that image and tell me we are doing the right thing. Now, tell the truth.
About

Well, ultimately, war is hell. Regardless of who dies. If this was a just cause, I’d honestly have no problem with civilian deaths, because, well, shit happens.
This is not a just cause, therefore no lost life is acceptible.
The sad/scary/blunt reality is that this has been quite a ‘clean’ war. The main difference is we’ve had immediate media coverage for so many events. In previous wars there was no streaming video or blog images. If we had the technology back in WWI and WWII that we have today, I guarantee you that this war would look like a tea party.
Either way, THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR WAR.
I understand the media has a lot to do with the portrayal of how this war is being fought. What I have found interesting is the most emotive images have come in still form, not in the horrific video. A moment can be understood (most of the time) and pulls and tugs at things that the moving image rushes past.
It seems like the popular reasons for this un-War are the hollow untruths, statements that have been proven to be conjecture and misrepresentation. We were not directly threatened. The starving Iraqis did not want to bomb the shit out of America. And now America swims nearly alone in this sea of shit…
I know this has been horrific for the families of the soldiers, men and women who are getting screwed out of their benifits…and I can’t imagine what this is doing to the people of Iraq. All I can do is send blessings from the safety of my porch….it’s not enough but it’s the best I can do…
