Okay, okay. I really want to see this. Why? Because although the other 2 (those being #1 and #2) are almost universally reviled, I found things in both movies that I enjoyed. Rather than focus on the things that annoyed me terribly (Portman’s strange shooting throughout both movies and the incessant whining of the kid) I try to focus on the things I liked. The city scenes bowled me over. The battles - fucking impressive. And the fight between Yoda and Duku (I am probably spelling that wrong) remains uncomparable. I think one of the bigger challenges came from the work in front of the blue-screen. There are actors - Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee - that seem to work well in front of the blue screen, while Portman always seems a touch off. But as a whole, and as pieces of the greater mythology of the Star Wars universe - I think they worked. They tell the back story. You find out what you need to know. D told me about an interview with Lucas in Vanity Fair - You are not supposed to like Anikin - and that seems to be the problem for most people - they don’t like the main character. I think pushing you to loathe him made sense.
So, I am going to see it with the huzzie….and I will probably like it too !

I think many expect the original trilogy all over again. There are some very painful scenes in both movies that bother me, but I’m trying to look past those, and view it as a whole entity. If you watch the original movies, the dialogue comes across as absolutely rediculous. We overlook so much when we are ten years old, I suppose. I don’t think any of it was ever meant to be taken quite so seriously. I will go see the last one in the theater, because it seems almost criminal not to. Like it or not, Star Wars is a part of our culture. What a weird thought.
On to the spellings: Count Dooku
Anakin
Heh, heh, may the force be with you

Ridiculous !!! Not Red!
People take the strangest things seriously. Star Wars, Star Trek…. it’s bloody amusing.

Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR… some people have religion, others have Luke Skywalker…

The basic story elements for the movies actually weren’t all that bad. It’s just George Lucas’ execution that hasn’t been great. (I purposefully said “execution” and not “direction”, BTW.) It has been kind of cool seeing the origin and early history of the characters we loved in the original trilogy. But we might have been better off reading about it in a well-drawn graphic novel. That said, I’ll still diligently pay to see Episode III because of all the subliminal messages Lucas put into the first trilogy.
The prequel effect also takes away from any impact the new movies might have. We know the characters we love from the original trilogy will survive anything thrown at them in the new trilogy. The Yoda-Dooku duel was fun, but we knew Yoda was in absolutely no danger whatsoever.
It might not be so bad if there were non-original characters in the new trilogy that I cared about (I can’t believe he killed off Darth Maul). I’m hoping that when Anakin finally goes completely Dark Side, he does so by throwing Amidala straight through Jar-Jar.

Oh man, I think Amidala is probably the worst character for me at this point. Natalie Portman may be good in other movies, but damn she sucks big time in the prequels. Her delivery makes me cringe. I hated that kid more than Jar Jar in the first one, as well. I really don’t mind the guy playing Anakin now, honestly. At least he comes across a little more natural, at least to me.

“he does so by throwing Amidala straight through Jar-Jar”
-I love that image!!!
I never thought about it in the context of knowing the future of the characters. You are right. We know what is going to happen, so the tension could never build properly…..
Well, maybe they will off Windu in an interesting way… (I know I butchered the spelling on that one too!)
