It’s been an interesting couple of weeks. Lots has changed, and I realize now that I am no longer a fan of moving. Colorado could have been better, but it was amazing seeing Nicole. The animals are finally acclimated to the new house, after a trying week of craziness. And although my living room is still cluttered with torn open cardboard boxes, this place is starting to feel like home.
The Trip
The flight out there was great. Nice food. Nice airline. Mom picked us up, made a quick run to the largest liquor store I have ever seen (althought they didn’t carry Tetley’s, so they are not supercool.) The first night was spent moving in, getting acclimated and gathering with friends and family. My parents have busted their ass and the Woods Inn Bed and Breakfast looks amazing. I can see Mom’s touches all over the place, in the lace curtains and the cheery shades of lavender that accented our room. There was snow the first night, although it was crap snow.
The vacation itself was filled with more drama than I care to talk about. The drama ruined much of the time for me, and I realized that next time I go on vacation, it’s going to be somewhere besides the Inn. It was great to see my sister (who is new married, congrats Lex and Greg!). She is an amazing human who sees things with wise eyes but and exudles glee and happiness. She also smothered my cheek in “Hollywood Kisses”, which while embarassing, was a welcome reminder of happy moments in our childhood. Many conversations were had in the fireplace room, my favorite room in the Inn, and I drank more hot cocoa than I should have. The time difference threw me off at first. The first morning, after a restless sleep, I actually made it to breakfast at 8. I didn’t manage to get up on time for the rest of the vacation, which was fine with me. I only skiied one day, the conditions were shite. But I was really happy to be back up on the mountain, where my heart feels full and Nature’s majesty is undeniable.
Nicole and her family came on the latter half of the trip. Deb looks amazing, and George is the same cheery, loving Greek man. He will never change and that makes me happy. Nicole is getting very tall and is as sweet as ever. We spent time drawing and playing and talking.
David’s birthday was fun. Mom attempted to make a cake, but the altitude ruined it. It was still edible, just not pretty. David made out like a bandit! =)
We flew home on the 14th, Alexis’s birthday. It was good to be home, but it felt wierd since there was so much stuff packed. So, in a brilliant move, we decided to start the process of switching houses. The kids were none too pleased, but we got quite a bit over to the new place. Monday was spent with the actual move, and studying for my midterm (which I was convinced that I had failed).
So the move is over. The house is somewhat assembled. And I am looking forward to our party on Saturday. Bring me presents!!! =)
