It’s almost 10 and I am dead tired. I guess it comes from getting up at the asscrack of dawn to get to work. But it’s not all bad.
The drive is hell, but for the past 2 days my glorious man and my good friend (some would say sister) Julie have ferried me to and fro, so I can keep Maru off the mean streets of Orlando. Alas, Julie will be unavaliable from now on due to her new job at Bravissimo’s !! This is a good thing, and I will just have to grow some balls and brave the drive alone.
So I am done with day three. Day one was orientation. Touring power plants and water treatment facilities. Lots of blab about benifits and safety. Day two was supposed to be training, but the woman who was to train me on their software had a meeting. Instead I traveled about Orlando with my boss, Lee. He wanted me to meet all the guys I would be working with on a one to one basis. They were all out in the field (most of them are out of the office by 7) so we tooted all over the place meeting this guy and that. I can’t tell you all their names, but I can tell you I liked most of them and I think it will be a refreshing change from the stale normal office enviornment. Lee is an interesting man. We don’t see eye to eye on animal rights, politics and religion, but beyond that I see a man with loads of integrity and genuine concern for his fellow man. He is a good ole southern boy who says yes ma’m and no ma’m to me, which is wierd considering I am at least 20 years his junior. But I like him a lot. We spent close to six hours in the truck so there was a lot of opportunity to talk, and we chatted away most of the day.
Today was my first real day of work. I was on the computers all day, trying to learn this strange system that has an attitude problem. It’s nice because I have my own desk, not a tiny cubicle. The building is airy and open, allowing for lots of noise but also a feeling of unity. There are small offices for the supervisiors and the head of the division, but the rest of the office is built up into short cubes. I am one of four women in my office. The other girl hired at the same time as me is a couple of years younger. The other two women are old hands in the place, one having been there for almost 35 years. So I am learning lots and lots of stuff. But I think I can manage. The other people in the office are funny, sarcastic and full of life. I think I am going to fit in well there.
So, I am offically an OUC employee. Yahoo for employment!
Congrats to Mr. July and Julie on their new jobs. Cat and Chris - you are next!
