Protests at Funerals

After Anti-Gay Insults, It May Be Felony To Protest Funerals

Oooookay. Does anyone else find this sick? I’m all about your right to protest, but common decency shoud rule in cases like this. I find this kind of idiotic behavior (see: extremism) gives all good Christians a bad name. Remember, I am way against organized religion, but it’s not fair to report on this shite and not herald the many things that all faiths are doing in support of the troops. I guess I am just an idealistic boob.

I think these freaks should grow some balls and pull this shit at the entrance of an army/air force/navy base. Just imagine the verbal carnage.

I’m against this war. But, this soldier’s widow didn’t deserve this.

And someone needs to tell them that their outfits clash. Wearing the American flag is sooooo 2001.
Why do people hate gays so much? I still don’t get it. I just don’t understand.

as a Christian, albeit, not a good one, it is my understanding that the Bible claims God loves everyone (keep in mind I am NOT a Bible toting righteous person)… especially those that are far from his reach… what those idiots are touting is rediculous… I think this goes above and beyone the reaches of stupidity…

They aren’t Christians. They are using the guise of Christianity to promote hate. And personally, I think Jesus the Christ, his Pops God and the Wholly Holy Ghost are all going to get more than a little pissed at people that pervert their/his message.

I could be completely wrong, but since when does Iraq openly accept homosexuality? I gues inbreeding really does lead to stupidity!

I actually think they were protesting because the soldier was fighting for the US, a nation that allows open homosexuality. Thus the claim that the deaths were for….ah fuck it, I really can’t even fathom what the fuck they were going on about. How far away is this country from the religious extremism that plagues many of the nations we call enemies?

It took me a while to wrap my brain around this one too. At first blush, I thought this was a protest of a soldier who was somehow outed posthumously. But pparently, it’s the soldier’s own fault for being in an overseas war zone while protecting the rights of gays in America.

I can imagine even a conservative reading this and having a hard time: “Yeah! I hate gays t- Wait… what the hell? You’re desecrating a military funeral?!?!”

And then he throws up in his own mouth.

Mmm…subtext. The bible does say god loves all his children, but it also says that you shouldn’t have man on man sex…or woman on woman sex…or man on chicken sex…hey hold on, why don’t they go after all those freaks in the south the screw barn animals? Anyway, back to topic. Its just there way to hear what they want to hear to push there own fears that deep down inside they are gay as well. The problem with Homophobes is that they think that “Gays” are out to turn everyone gay. I’m sure most of them think its a disease that can be spread (I’m serious here…they are that dim witter) Then there are the pushers who use it as a rally point to get more followers…if you follow them on anti gay legislation then you will also fill there coffers with money and possibly help them push some clause into a bill that fills there pockets even more. Its really sad to see people manipulated this way, but what am I to expect hmm?

It also mentions in the bible that men shouldn’t cut their hair, but I don’t see any Christian groups boycotting soldiers for short hair. People should stop hanging on to obscure phrases in an ancient text, and use their brains. I’m not saying anyone should stop being Christian, but the term Christian comes from Christ, as in Jesus ‘the’ Christ, as in you are suppose to follow his teachings, which have nothing to do with the Old Testiment (see he wasn’t born yet) where the aforementioned no gay sex or cutting your hair comes from.

In fact, it really baffles me that so many Christians are such experts on such a pointless and useless sentence in the bible, when so many seem to miss one of the more important ones…”Judge not less ye be judged.”

NPR aired a segment about this story.

TONGANOXIE, KS (2005-10-27) His young wife, parents, siblings, other family members and friends buried Army Corporal Lucas Frantz Thursday afternoon in Tonganoxie, Kansas. A sniper in Iraq killed Franz last week on his 22nd birthday. Corporal Franz’s memorial service touched off a dispute between followers of Reverend Fred Phelps and a large group of motorcycle riding veterans. KCUR’s Frank Morris reports.

Coincidentally enough, I’m going to be in Kansas City, MO next week and meeting with a friend from Tonganoxie, KS. She married her long-time boyfriend this past summer in a fashion not too different than the McEachern Ceremony last year. She had completed her Master’s degree and had a graduation party. In the middle of the party, “our two lesbian friends donned their Buddhist monk robes and married us right there on the spot” as she put it.
