Damn, I am tired again.
Vanya came over last night to deliver my presents (I love presents, but felt like a butthead because I didn’t get anything for her) and as I cuddled up in my blanket on the couch, I remembered what a kick-ass woman she is. She cracks me up. She bought D the best toothbrush in the world, and my lips are quite lubricated thanks to her (take that as you will).
More details about my exciting life: I made a kick-ass stir fry last night. I need to rock the wok more often.
There are a couple of topics in the news that have caught my eye.
Intelligent Design: so sad that the Creation story won’t make it into science classrooms. I’m not Christian and I am offended that they are trying to push that kind of specifically Christain thought into the science texts and classrooms. Keep your Christ out of my science. And please explain to me exactly what “intelligent design” means. It’s a nice phrase, now tarnished by funamentalism and nonsense. (I do know what the phrase means, but I get irritated when good words become coated by lunacy).
Would you like a little lemon with that Impeachment?: I want Rome to fall. It needs to. The pillars are weakened by corruption. Our Commander in Chief seems to think that spying on his own people, without the support of of the Congress falls within his legal rights. Is “freedom” that cheap? I’m sorry, but I can honestly say that I would rather die than have my civil liberties violated. It’s just not right, and I think someone should tell Bush he’s not wearing a crown. This is not his kingdom, it’s a collection of united people (theoretically) who seem to work at odds most of the time, but they represent a singular purpose. Is is OUR United States, not HIS!
NYC transit strikes: Why are the villifying the union? Why is it such a bad thing for people to want better treatment? Why can’t people just shut up and walk? This is such a “me” society. I understand that the strike has made it harder on business and families. What about the union worker’s families? Think around the issue, people. All the way around.
On that note I am going to eat my veggie buffalo wings (extra spicy) and contemplate smacking my coworkers with a herring. Do you think they would get the insult?

I must find that. I am sure it would amuse the hell out of me.
That man scares me more than Bush. Do you know why? People actually LISTEN to him. I think most people who hear our Pres-duh-dent speak just feel bad because he obviously killed too many braincells. It’s bad when you can hear the gears grinding in his head from this far away.

Ok. Lets see. Where to start. Well I guess I’ll start by saying this is the begining of what I’m guessing will be a very long conversation we will have one day VERY soon on your porch.
Intelligent Design is a great word and I’m also very sorry it has been smeared by the extreme fundamentalist freaks. When I first heard the jist of Intelligent Design I was shoked. I thought it was the answer to the question I had asked myself a thousand times. If god is all powerful and works in mysterious way’s why in the name of all creation can he not be the reason why evolution started in the first place? Why is it that no one in the religious loony been can grasp the ideas that god made us single cell organisms and at the same time knew that we would evolve into what we are today? Its not that far fetched of a theory. Maybe God breathed life into this planet and knew from the begining of time what would end up happening? This is what I thought Intelligent Design was and what I think it should be. As per the usual the crazy people have taken a beautiful thing (and I mean faith in this case) and molested it into something perverse and single mindedly created to further someones wealth and power.
Bush is an ass hole. In all honesty I could care less about being spied on because I have nothing to hide, but the thing that really bites me in the ass is the fact that Bush blatantly broke the law. This is the fact that we should be focusing on. He, with his actions, nullified his contract as the leader of this country. He has been breaking the law since he started his reign of power, and now he has finally been caught with irrefutable proof. I’m really wondering if this hasn’t been some monstrous master plan from the begining. I really wonder if his cabinet hasn’t been setting him up as a patsy since the day he was put up for election. I hate to admit that our country would vote a moron into office, but they have and I really think he has been used to further an agenda I don’t think he fully understands. In his own mind he is doing what he thinks is best for this country, even though it so obviously isn’t.
And finally, I personally think the strike in NYC is wrong. I think unionizing is a great way to make the plee’s of the little man heard, but this strike is effecting way more then themselves. Thousands of independently owned shops, restaurants, and businesses are being effected because one set of workes isn’t being treated well. Why should everyone suffer, including the families of the merchents loosing there shirts due to lack of business, because of this? There are other options then striking. The sad thing is that no one will see a true gane from this. If the contracts get renegotiated the Transit workers may see an increase in pay, but at what cost? They will now be on the cities chopping block and you will most likely see a reduction in budget and much needed funds to expand and upkeep the aging NYC transit structure. Also who do you think is least effected by the strike? Maybe the government officials who get ferried into the city and can afford the cab services? This just seems like an ill advised step to getting what the workes deserve. Its like a child throwing a tantrum as a final resort. No one wins, the parent is embarrassed and the child may get what s/he wants only at the cost of an ass whippen when they get home.

I don’t have a problem with “intelligent design”. Well, except that it isn’t science, so I’m not sure why you would teach it in a biology class.
The bigger problem is with our “one size fits all” education system. Most local governments can’t manage traffic lights properly, yet we think they can manage to teach our children?
I have so much more, but Frankie seems to have used up all of today’s pontification bandwidth.
I’ll save mine for a porch session.
